Re-prep on the road - from Greece to Turkey

11 June 2008
Following their competitive debut on the Acropolis Rally of Greece fewer than two weeks ago, both Subaru Impreza WRC2008s have been readied for action once again, this time in Turkey.
The cars travelled from Greece directly to the rally centre in Kemer without passing the team’s base in the UK, which meant that all preparation had to be done in the field. Members of the team arrived in Turkey earlier than usual to strip the cars, re-prepare and rebuild them in time for Thursday’s start.
This involved removing the major components of the cars such as underfloor protection plates, suspension components, seats and exhaust, and checking the condition of each. Where parts have been sealed by the FIA, the same components are reused, but the majority are replaced with new to ensure peak condition before what will be another tough event.
After the many lessons learned from the Greece debut, the team had time to make a few small changes to eek a little more performance from the fledgling machine. The setup of both cars was also changed to best suit the very loose and very different stage surface that the Rally of Turkey brings.
Cosmetic touches were also applied, such as the re-spraying of the lower chassis sills which were peppered by stones in Greece. After several days’ frenetic work, the new Imprezas look exactly that – brand new and fighting fit for another round of the WRC.
