A hybrid Subaru Forester has never been sold in this country, but that’s about to change. Sure, there were a couple of hybrid Crosstreks, but their powertrains didn’t have what it takes to power the larger Forester. After all, the first 2014 Crosstrek XV hybrid made just 160 horsepower, and the 2019–23 Crosstrek Hybrid (a plug-in hybrid, actually) made only 148 horsepower. Recently, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid was announced with 194 horsepower, and the same hybrid powertrain will power the new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid. Why did Subaru announce the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid before the 2025 Forester Hybrid? That is indeed a mystery. But at least the Forester Hybrid sneaks in for the first year of this new generation, even if the spring 2025 intro comes about halfway through the model year.
