It appears Toyota will be ditching its Subaru-sourced boxer-four for the next-generation GR86 sports coupe, according to Japan’s BestCar. The outlet learned about the development at this year’s Rally Japan 2024 event in the Aichi Prefecture during a stage-and-crowd Q&A session with Toyota Motor Corporation Executives. Initially, BestCar’s on-site correspondent asked whether the rumored Toyota Celica revival was true and in that conversation, Toyota’s Executive Vice President for Product, Yuki Nakajima, confirmed that the company is indeed working on a next-gen Celica, and it’s currently under development.
