Though not a Subaru, I’ve included this article to give a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes..many of the drivers in film and TV these days are the folks that compete in rally. The DB5 stars in a very memorable scene in which machine guns pop out of the headlights and James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, mows down the bad guys by doing donuts, rotating in one spot. Craig’s stunt driver, famed… Read More →

By now, everyone’s seen press shots of the new 2022 Subaru WRX. Takes abound concerning the plastic fender cladding, the cheap-looking black rear bumper, and the CVT-only Recaro package. What most people haven’t done, however, is actually seen the thing in person. I did, at this year’s Wicked Big Meet, and let me tell you folks: it’s good. There’s some important context to lay down in terms of Subaru design. Namely, function usually begets form… Read More →

The approaching announcement of an all-new Subaru WRX is an event to be viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation. Exciting stuff: sideways gravel antics; still comes with a manual; almost surely will have more power! Worrying stuff: almost certainly not going to look like the attractive concepts; and what if Subaru messes things up? The WRX is, indeed, Subaru’s ball to drop. The current generation now being wound down is most definitely a star… Read More →

The cynics among us thought the Subaru BRZ and its near identical Toyota twin, the GT 86, were doomed. Launched in 2013, these compact, lightweight, and modestly powered rear-drivers enjoyed agile handling and easy chuckability. They left us smitten, even if they seemed increasingly out of step as the years passed while the world tripped out on mega-horsepower and 23-inch wheel and tire combos. Mercifully, the world isn’t as SUV-minded as we’d feared, and both… Read More →

Subaru’s Impreza WRX was born from rally, and the brand owes a large chunk of its motorsport history to one man – Noriyuki Koseki. He’s one of a few key people who helped create Subaru Technica International (STI) – the brand’s motorsport division. Even before he helped develop world-beating road and race Subarus, he was racing them on his own time and money. In the late 1960s, Koseki founded a local motorsport club in his… Read More →

Japanese car-maker Subaru has today celebrated the production of 20 million vehicles with all-wheel-drive (AWD), which has become the brand’s unique selling proposition. Subaru launched its first mass-produced AWD vehicle 49 years ago in Japan, where the Subaru Leone 4WD Estate Van arrived in September 1972. Today all but two per cent of Subaru’s global sales are AWD and the most popular Subaru models in Australia today are small, medium and large SUVs. The rear-wheel drive Subaru… Read More →

A Subaru Outback is just as natural parked by a million-dollar beach home in Connecticut as it is traversing a campsite in Mount Hood. Most owners, no matter where they live or how much they make, prefer the Outback’s practicality, comfort, and affordable cost over a rock-biting, trailblazing hell of a time. The Outback Wilderness is the opposite. This is Subaru’s version of a Raptor—lifted and factory-kitted to tackle more abuse on tough terrain. We… Read More →
