The Subaru Airslayer was a wicked machine. Subaru and sport compact fans (though these cars have grown to a size that makes the term “compact” rather relative) have had to learn to accept that the Japanese automaker doesn’t plan to build a full-on STI variant of the fifth-generation WRX, which first appeared as a 2022 model. Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today reported 55,228 vehicle sales for June 2024, a 0.1 percent increase compared with June 2023 (55,168). SOA also reported year-to-date sales of 322,443, a six percent increase compared with the same period in 2023. Read More →

Much in the same way the large Ascent SUV radically transformed Subaru’s core automotive DNA from a history of much smaller — often oddball — vehicles, the 2025 version of the popular Forester SUV also entirely rewrites the rulebook. Toyota is finally building a turbocharged GR86, but it’s not following the Subaru-blazed path of blending forced induction with a flat-four. It’s instead turning the coupe into a one-off, rally-inspired concept that will debut at the 2024 SEMA show with the Corolla GR’s turbo-three. Toyota has something extra special planned for this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. The company is building a one-off GR86 that’ll use the turbocharged three-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive powertrain from its rally-inspired hot hatch, the GR Corolla.
