It’s a little late, but winter’s finally here in Michigan (and seemingly everywhere), which makes it a perfect time to see how our long-term WRX handles the snow, ice and salt that coats our roads this time of year. The first task was swapping out the standard summer Dunlop rubber on our WRX Limited for a set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 tires. We stuck with the original size of 245/45 R18 tires to slip onto… Read More →

When Subaru first came to the United States, it sold small funky cars that were decidedly un-American. As the company grew its own identity and became more established in the U.S., it became the first automaker to offer an all-wheel-drive passenger car in 1975. Subaru was also an early-adopter of turbocharged engines to bring more power to its line of quirky cars and wagons. Subaru was also one of the first manufacturers to produce a… Read More →

In motorsport, loads of clever innovations have sprung from a close reading of the rulebook. For Sam Albert, a loophole in the American Rally Association regs led him to an unconventional project: a 2004 Subaru WRX STI with a Ferrari V8. Yes, you read that correctly. Albert, a rally driver and instructor at Dirtfish Rally School in Washington State, started the build nearly two years ago after discovering the American Rally Association allowed a naturally… Read More →

Are you waiting for the return of the Subaru WRX STi or anything worthy of that moniker? You’re not alone. Many performance enthusiasts would like their STi fix, but sadly it appears no successor is planned, at least not with an internal combustion engine. Right now, as you know, all that’s left is the 271-horsepower WRX. For 2024, the company is introducing a top-of-the-line, track-tuned RS model with suspension, steering, braking and tire upgrades but… Read More →

Subaru’s Canadian star Brandon Semenuk took the title – his second ARA crown in succession – but who was the most spectacular crew from last year’s championship? Semenuk and co-driver Keaton Williams have to be in with a shot at that award: the pair were unbeaten and on sublime form throughout 2023. More than that, the WRX, old and new, were worth watching all year long. It was the same for any one of the… Read More →
