The new Subaru BRZ tS offers a different path to greatness than the WRX TR. If you want your own 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, you won’t be left to the whims of fate or excessive dealer markups. The original tS, launched near the end of the first-gen BRZ’s production run, was limited to exactly 500 copies built over a two-month span in early 2018. Come early 2024, Subaru will unleash a new tS, based on… Read More →

What was the cheapest new four-wheel-drive car available in the United States during the early 1990s? No, it wasn’t the Subaru Loyale sedan, nor was it the Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz AWD. It was the Subaru Justy 4WD, a tiny three-cylinder machine available here for the 1988 through 1994 model years. Today’s Junkyard Gem is one of those now-rare cars, found in a Northern California boneyard a few months back. Read More →

NHTSA unveiled a proposal on May 31 to require that all new passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less to have AEB capable of braking to fully avoid a crash with another vehicle at up to 50 mph, with a four-year grace period from the date the eventual rule is adopted. If the regulation is adopted in its present form, vehicles will also have to be… Read More →

The Prodrive P25 shouldn’t really appeal to me. As a reminder, it’s a reinterpretation of a 1997 WRC Subaru Impreza, but with 2023 components, technology and know-how. Crucially, it doesn’t require an engineering team to run it and you can – well, could – use it on the road. It does come at a price: more than £550,000. Read More →

Nestled in a fairly unassuming Chichester industrial estate just down the road from Goodwood, is a rather special place. Between the various plumbing and building trade suppliers is a shrine to all things rally, known simply as Rally Replay. Rally Replay can best be described as equal parts showroom, shop and museum. I’ve made a point of stopping in every time I head to Goodwood, and the constant rotation of cars means there’s always something… Read More →

Automakers love to sell emotion and aspiration. Luxury vehicles must exude opulence. Sports cars sell on adrenaline. Trucks? Often a measure of your masculinity. In the subcompact SUV space, none of those works. There is nothing inherently exciting or luxurious about a lifted hatchback. But savvy marketers understand anything with four wheels can take you places, transporting your mind—if not your person—to anywhere but here. For many consumers, especially those with only $30,000 or so… Read More →

French-based Hyundai team 2C Competition is aiming to bring two cars to next year’s ARA series – with team manager Florent Peronnet confident they can carry the fight to Subaru and two-time champion Brandon Semenuk in 2024. It was Peronnet’s team which ran Ken Block’s American campaign last season and his daughter Lia had potentially featured in the 2C plan for 2024, before the announcement of her F1 Academy drive for Williams next year. If you read our BRZ tS review, you know I was just in Sicily driving some Subarus. As you’ve no doubt gathered by now, the other car was the Subaru WRX TR. With the demise of the U.S. market STI at the hands of America’s goofy emissions regime the WRX TR assumes the mantle of Subaru’s most performance oriented car. It’s also the last AWD sedan you can get with a manual transmission in the… Read More →
