Subaru has been on a Viziv tear over the last few years, rolling out various iterations of its sporty concept vehicles since 2013—each exploring themes that are largely similar to what would emerge in the traditional vehicle lineup. Think: Crosstrek, WRX, Impreza, Forester, and the JDM Levorg wagon. But for the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show—known officially now as the Japan Mobility Show—Subaru’s Sport Mobility Concept hits different. Speaking with Motor1, Subaru USA spokesperson Todd Hill has revealed that the newly-revealed WRX TR does not have a rear wing because the automaker is worried people will confuse the warmed-up sedan for a hot, nonexistent STI version. “In the USA, the rear wing has always been associated with the WRX STI and has only ever been offered on it,” said Hill. “In other markets, the large wing has been offered on WRX models as… Read More →

The 2024 Subaru WRX TR has been unveiled in the US – with sharper handling and larger brakes but no more power – ahead of a launch in North America early next year, and Australian arrivals at a later date. When Subaru announced that the current-generation WRX would not receive an STI version, many fans were upset, unsurprisingly. Now, the company is reusing an old name, and the company has gone a little upmarket with this one. The automaker is reaching back to 2006 to resurrect the TR moniker, which last time around stood for “Tuner Ready.” Back then, it was a stripped-down model intended for customers to modify. It cost $1000 less than the… Read More →

The 2024 WRX TR will be an enthusiast-special of the classic all-weather enthusiast daily, Subaru announced on Friday. The new trim will come with Brembo Brakes, Recaro Seats, and retuned suspension and steering. A manual is the only transmission choice, and you can’t get the adaptive dampers from the CVT-only GT model on the TR. The company says the TR will offer better road feel, steering response, and body control over the standard WRX, along… Read More →

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness stands at the top of the Crosstrek lineup, getting the most hardware and software of any model. The Wilderness name alludes to off-roading and overlanding capability, but this trim also adds equipment inside to make the interior easier to clean or prevent it from looking dirty. The new Wilderness model builds on the Crosstrek Limited and is powered only by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 182 hp and 178… Read More →

We only bottomed out once. Seriously. Through miles of Bureau of Land Management roads, a private off-road park, and even a single-track rock-studded trail, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness took every dip, drop, and crack with grace and enthusiasm. Better yet, it was comfortable and quiet while doing it, unlike some other off-road icons we know. The Crosstrek Wilderness is not a Jeep Wrangler—for better or worse—although Subaru positions it as a viable alternative. Read More →
