It’s no secret that car enthusiasts have been a bit down on Subaru recently. With the company’s World Rally Championship days a distant memory and the newest iteration of the competent WRX lacking an STI to look up to, it feels like the days of exciting Pleiades-emblazoned vehicles are behind us. Foresters, Outbacks, and Ascents for Pacific Northwest-residing soccer moms seem to be the main output of the company, and while they’re good, they’re not… Read More →

Mountain goats look unbalanced—they have goofy faces accented by a tuft of chin hair, and their heads look far too small for their bodies. Yet these large, oddly proportioned beasts possess extreme rock-climbing capability, able to navigate sheer cliff faces and perch on the narrowest of ledges. In the automotive kingdom, the new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is similarly deceptive. Compared to boxy body-on-frame off-roaders such as the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco, the Crosstrek’s… Read More →

Subaru reserves its Wilderness pack for only its most capable vehicles, with cars like the Forester and Outback previously using the extra ground clearance and rugged accessories to bravely go where no Subaru has gone before. You know, it’s strange that the Subaru WRX hasn’t been in the wider enthusiast conversation much. With all the glory going to the Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai Elantra N, Toyota GR Corolla, and Subaru BRZ, it always felt like the new, softer VB-generation WRX never hit the mark. Subaru now has an opportunity to fix that with the upcoming 2024 Subaru WRX TR. Read More →

When Subaru announced that the Impreza would ditch the sedan body style and focus on it being a hatchback-only experience for 2024, it certainly had us asking questions. For one thing, could we buy a four-door in time? (my wife was in the market for a new vehicle back then) and how will consumers respond to this radical transition. Thankfully, the Subaru faithful have responded positively to the changes, and after spending some time with… Read More →

Talk about the 2022 Subaru WRX, and the first word that comes to mind is perhaps related to speed. “Sporty,” “fast,” “enthusiastic,” or a similar description is usually what we all think when we see a WRX around us. But practical? Not since Subaru killed the WRX wagon in 2007 and hatchback in 2014. Read More →

The heyday of Subaru could be considered one of the golden eras of motoring. Few mainstream brands captured the hearts and dreams of the public quite like Subaru did back in the 1990s, when the late Colin McCrae was at the helm of a GC8 WRX and the road versions were carving up V8s like they were made of cheese. The WRX, Liberty and Forester established a cult following so large and so loyal that… Read More →

Following the North American debut of the 2024 BRZ tS back in July, its Japanese equivalent is now official and bears a different name. Meet the STI Sport, a new trim level offered in the Land of the Rising Sun with just about the same goodies as its American sibling. It gets 17-inch Brembo brakes with front and rear ventilated discs hugged by gold calipers behind 18-inch dark metallic wheels wrapped in 215/40 R18 high-performance… Read More →

As per the August 2023 sales report for the US market, the Forester is currently ranked in third place. With 69,151 deliveries to its name, Subaru’s compact-sized crossover lags behind the Outback (96,907 units) and newly redesigned Crosstrek (99,262 units). Part of the reason the Forester has lost its mojo is age, with Subaru revealing the SK-codenamed Gen 5 in 2018 for the 2019 model year. Speaking of which, the fourth-generation SJ ran between 2012… Read More →
