I bought my first car in 2009—a 1992 Subaru SVX—for $4,600. It had 87,000 miles on it. That was the beginning of my Subaru obsession. I have owned 13 of them and I now have four.
What do I love about these cars? 1) Subarus do not do any one thing really well. But they do everything pretty good, and that’s enough for me. 2) They can go anywhere. I take my all-wheel-drive 1999 Legacy wagon off-roading, and it can keep up with Jeeps. 3) The cars are super affordable. I bought my 1999 Legacy for $400 and it cost me $9 a month to insure. 4) I work on cars, and I have never found a car more simply put together than a Subaru.
