After 5,000 miles of competitive driving, Andy and Mercedes Lilienthal of Southwest Portland claimed a class victory in the 2024 running of the Alcan 5000 Winter Rally.
The event took place from Feb. 21 to March 1, and included 10 days of competitive driving and endurance in the harsh winter conditions of the far north. In addition to the Lilienthals, several other teams from Portland competed in the event.
The Alcan 5000 event sweeps the far Northwest of the US and Canada, beginning in Kirkland, Washington and crossing British Columbia, Alberta, and up to Yellowknife in Canada’s Northwest Territories.
